About Us

With more than 3,000 members, the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association is one of the largest organizations of its kind in Canada and is one of the very few with ownership in its building and facilities. We have a straightforward objective...the enrichment of senior life. We are a non-profit, charitable organization, GWSA partners with the City of Guelph in the operation of the Evergreen Seniors Centre, a state-of-the-art recreation facility.

The GWSA also operates in other civic places such as the West End Community Centre and, in the not-too-distant future, will be a key partner with the City of Guelph in the design and use of the new South End Community Centre.

The GWSA makes available some 90 organized programs, activities and services throughout the year as well as special events and public interest forums.

We are supported by the active participation of the more than 500 volunteers who make it all possible.

How It All Began...

The idea of a GWSA began in 1985 through the initiatives of the City in the formation of a Seniors' Advisory Board to comment upon and to make recommendations regarding the establishment of a centre of activity for seniors.

The Guelph Wellington Seniors Association was formed in 1988 and immediately embarked on an extensive campaign to raise funds for the new activity centre for seniors. The City of Guelph and the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association shared a commitment to the design and funding of the new Seniors facility.

The City matched the financing achievement of the Association and its private supporters.

At a cost of $3.2 million to build, furnish and equip, the Evergreen Seniors Centre opened in 1992 as a 25,000 square foot, state-of-the-art recreation facility.
