Computer Courses
We are very proud of our state-of-the-art computer lab at the Evergreen Seniors Centre and our broad range of highly requested course subjects listed below, which are offered all year long.
We have 12 new Windows XP, networked computers, all linked to one laser printer, and using High-Speed wireless Internet technology access for email and web surfing.
Our room is a fully functional teaching facility with wall mounted screen and ceiling mounted LCD projector. Our instructors are well versed in their various fields of instruction and the best thing of all is ... we like to have fun computing.
Our courses are open to GWSA members at a reduced cost, and to the general public. Our one-day workshops are cost efficient and the longer four week courses are also realistically priced. Courses are two hours in duration and times are from 9:30 - 11:30 am and from 1:00 - 3:00 pm with some course subjects being also offered in the evening.There is no need to bring a laptop or your digital camera as all necessary equipment is supplied. Just bring a pen and paper and a willness to learn about the power of your computer.

Computers Getting Started I: Beginner - This beginner's course is for those who would like to try computing at its most basic level. Instructor Ken Russell will give you hands-on experience to help you learn at your own pace.
Computers Getting Started II - Learn how to create files and folders, save your work, develop mouse and keyboard skills, and maintain your computer. Use a simple text editor and be ready to move on to e-mail and other computer courses. This course requires completion of the Getting Started I course or equivalent experience. Social Networks -Check out how easy it is to stay in touch with your family and loved ones from around the world. Post and view pictures, send cards or just say hello. Sites like Facebook, MSN and Twitter are a few of the popular sites that we will explore to help you stay in touch.
Digital Photos to Movies - You have mastered the art of taking photos with your digital camera; now what do you want to do with them? Let us show you how Movie Maker software that comes with Windows, takes your ordinary photos and brings them to life on any DVD player.
Where the Heck Are My Files?
This 2 week course will help you find files already on your computer and manage all of your files for future. It will allow you to manage doc and image files better, know where your files and photos are saved when they download from your camera, internet or saved from a program. This session would be suitable for both mac and pc users. Some computer experience is necessary.
Open Office
Open Office is a free for download, office suite of applications available for many diferent operating systems. Why spend the big bucks come learn how to use a word processor, spreadsheet and presentation software.
E-mail - Set up an e-mail account and begin sending and receiving simple messages with your classmates. Discuss software programs, the types of e-mail services and how e-mail works. Instructor: Ken Russell - Prerequisite: Computers Getting Started I or equivalent.
Microsoft Office 97 - The Series -Microsot Office is an amazing package of productivity sotware that can help you in your day to day life - if you know how to use it. Let our teaching staff show you the shortcuts and how the components of this suite of software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access) can work for you.

Computer Mentoring - Everyone with a computer runs into problems. Solve your computer challenges with the assistance of the GWSA Computer Club volunteers every Monday afternoon from 1 - 3 p.m. Register at the front desk. Members $3/ Non-members $5
Free Time Wednesdays and Fridays - The Evergreen computer lab is open every Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. for members of the GWSA. Check your e-mail, write a letter or print a document. The only cost is for the use of the printer. A member of the Computer Club will be on hand to help with emergencies.
