What Positions Need Filling?
Make Yourself at Home Suite of Services
Would you like to experience volunteering with an innovative group of health promotion services? If so, consider volunteering with the Make Yourself at Home Suite of Services. All volunteer commitments are flexible to suit your interests and availability. We offer ongoing education opportunities, regular staff support and the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and skills. Volunteer opportunities are available in the following programs:
Make Yourself at Home Peer Advocates
The GWSA's newest Program is seeking volunteers who would like to assist their fellow seniors remain independent and healthy. Working on an on-call basis, Peer Advocates provide home visits to assist with identifying and connecting to community supports and services.
Feeling Better Move Well
Display Designer: If you have a flair for presentation, consider assisting as a display designer for the Feeling Better Eat Well/Move Well Program. The display unit is located at the Evergreen Seniors Centre. Time commitment for this position would be a few hours per month to work with the Program Co-ordinator to create themes, literature, pictures and recipes.
Volunteer Leaders: Are you passionate about the benefits of physical activity? If you would like to help other seniors stay physically active, consider volunteering with this innovative program. Volunteers deliver in-home exercises via weekly visits. As little as one hour per week is all that is required. A full training and orientation program will be offered starting on October 1, 2009.
Feeling Better Eat Well
Garden Fresh Box: From time to time the Garden Fresh Program can use a volunteer to help out at the Evergreen on delivery days. (third Wednesday of the month)
Food Tasting Assistants: Food tastings are offered on the last Thursday of the month to introduce healthy, seasonal new food ideas to visitors at the Evergreen. Our Program Co-ordinator could use some assistance to prepare and offer food samples to Evergreen visitors.
Diabetes Support Assistant Facilitator: The Diabetes Support Group would welcome a volunteer to assist as facilitators and helpers at their support group meetings. The group meets for one hour on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month.
Seniors Offering Support
The Seniors Offering Support telephone line is recruiting volunteers to help out with the telephone line. If you enjoy speaking and visiting on the telephone, consider this interesting volunteer position.
Outreach
Consider assisting with the Outreach program to foster social interaction and recreation for seniors to help out with this half-day Program at the Evergreen and at Norfolk Street United Church. Various opportunities include helping to greet participants and telephone calls to confirm participant attendance.
