Volunteer Program Explained

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association (GWSA), Make Yourself at Home Suite of Services. As a volunteer, you will contribute a vital role to improving and enhancing the lives of those in our community. We consider our volunteers a very important part of the work and success of our organization and it is our hope you will find your participation meaningful and enriching.

From its earliest beginnings, volunteers have been at the heart of the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association. Over the years, the Association has become regarded as exceptional and innovative not only in its relationship with the City of Guelph, but also in its unique approach to ensure the well being of all older adults in the community. This has been successfully achieved by the creation of programs and services, which operate both within the Evergreen Seniors Centre, and on an outreach basis to residents of Guelph and Wellington County. By giving fellow seniors the tools to age healthfully, the Association has been successful in achieving its purpose of fostering well being and personal independence.

Today, Guelph Wellington Seniors Association is 3500 plus members strong with more than 500 of its members supporting the Association through a multitude of volunteer activities. The key to that success remains the commitment of the many individuals who come together to foster the programs of the Association. As a volunteer, your contribution, dedication and commitment are vital to the delivery of our mandate. Each volunteer opportunity is an important contribution to the Association.

The association has adopted the principles and standards from the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement and is committed to upholding these values, principles and standards in its volunteer program. In acknowledging the important role volunteers play within the GWSA, the Association has on staff a full-time Volunteer Manager along with Program Co-ordinators who assist with the day to day delivery of services by our Volunteers. Volunteer policies and procedures have been adopted by the Association and provide the framework for a full orientation to the Programs offered under the Make Yourself at Home Suite of Services.
