Take Advantage of Your Seniority

Volunteers

We welcome any individuals interested in getting involved and becoming an Evergreen volunteer.

The Guelph Wellington Seniors Association was presented with the "Outstanding Achievement Awards for Voluntarism in Ontario" by the Province of Ontario at a ceremony in Kitchener on November 8, 2005. It was appropriate recognition for the more than 500 GWSA members who give so much to the provision of activities, services, programs and special events that benefit us all.

With numerous positions and opportunities available, we will work with you to find the best fit for your strengths and your schedule.

If you have not yet signed-up for a volunteer contribution to your Association, why not give a call today and find out how you can make a difference.

Wanted
Consider Volunteering as a Peer Advocate with the Make Yourself at Home Program

We are actively recruiting interested individuals who would like to work with fellow seniors as their Advocates. The main goal of the Make Yourself at Home Program is to help older adults and their caregivers learn to navigate "the system".

Working collaboratively with staff, Senior Peer Advocates will help clients find answers to questions and links to community and health services.

Senior Peer Advocates will not be providing hands-on work like housekeeping and home maintenance, instead they will work with clients to provide support and knowledge so clients can develop the confidence to care for themselves.

Training and orientation will be starting in March.

To find out more information, please do not hesitate to call Maryanne Wilford, Volunteer Manager for the Make Yourself at Home Program at (519) 222-1360

We appreciate our volunteers! The Evergreen Seniors Centre is the successful Centre it is due to our volunteers. The Guelph Wellington Seniors Association and the City of Guelph are fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers.

We have over 500 volunteers in various roles: from baker to cashier, to Activity Group Leader, to Board of Directors, to Sentinel Delivery Person. The list goes on and on.

An interesting factoid ... that in California they surveyed older adults who volunteer, and they found that adults who volunteer actually had about a 44% lower mortality rate. So volunteer, you'll live longer.
